Educational Outreach Internships
Intern Description
Want to make a difference in young girls’ lives? Want to be a true role model? Latinitas is now hiring Club Leaders for our educational outreach programs that start at the end of August. We need mature and committed interns and volunteers who can lead girls and teens through digital media publishing, production and cultural literacy lessons during our after-school programs that take place on a weekly basis from August-December. Female college students gain leadership experience, develop communication skills, build media expertise, practice public speaking skills and learn presentation and facilitation techniques.
Responsibilities include
- Attending a mandatory Club Leader training
- Leading afterschool clubs on a weekly basis
- Mentoring Latina youth
- Promoting Club Latinitas and recruiting interested participants
- Providing the program coordinator with ideas, information, & potential resources
- Alerting the appropriate program coordinator when sensitive situations arise
- Attending the bi-weekly meetings to discuss observations and new lessons
- Obtaining written permission slips for field trips
- Providing feedback to Program Coordinators
- Administering pre & post surveys and ensuring submission to Program Coordinators
- Recruit volunteers to assist with club
- Promoting the club to community centers, libraries and local schools
- Serving as a liaison with school staff
- Taking attendance at every club meeting
- Preparing handouts & materials before each scheduled club
Intern Requirements
This position requires 15 hours of work per week. Must be available at least two afternoons (3-6pm) a week. We offer for-credit internships. This is a non-paid intern position, but the experience is priceless. The ideal intern will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. Prior experience working with youth is preferred. Interns should be enthusiastic, organized, resourceful, and creative. We are looking for a self-starter who is able to work independently and is willing to take advantage of this opportunity to develop their professional skills. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply. Training will be given as necessary.

Latinitas Communications Internship
Intern Description
Want to make a difference in a girl’s life? Help Hispanic girls succeed by volunteering with Latinitas. Become a Communications Intern and help girls build confidence and skills. Latinitas is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Latina youth through media. We publish LatinitasMagazine.org, the first bilingual webzine by and for U.S. Hispanic girls. We host after-school clubs and outreach programs which help girls express themselves through media. We are seeking talented individuals to volunteer for our busy communications committee. Communications Interns will have a unique opportunity to learn about non-profit public affairs through hands-on activities and exposure to a wide range of activities and projects.
This department requires volunteer interns to help further the public image of the organization and to help create wider exposure in the Austin & El Paso, Texas area. We have plenty of opportunities to fill your portfolio while having a lot of fun and helping girls at the same time! We offer meaningful and fulfilling experiences for several interests and academic backgrounds. This position is recommended for students with a major in Communications, Business, Marketing or Spanish, however, anyone interested is very welcome to apply. Within our communications department, we offer the following intern positions: fundraising, public relations, web design, graphic design, editorial, photography, event planning, multimedia, advertising and marketing.

Project Outline
- Editorial: Write feature stories for online & print publication.
- Marketing/Advertising: Help develop & implement marketing & advertising plan.
- Public Relations: Update media contact list, write press releases for upcoming events pitch story ideas to reporters and monitor media coverage.
- Fundraising: Assist with raising funds through special events & sponsorships.
- Graphic/ Web Design: Design promotional materials & update website.
- Photography: Develop stock photography, cover events, & create photo essays.
- Event Planning: Aid in organizing conferences and special events.
- Multimedia: Create video, audio and flash projects for web publication.

Editorial & Multimedia Internship
Job Description
LatinitasMagazine.com is the first digital magazine by and for Latina youth. Latinitas is a dedicated to being a strong voice for young Latinas, telling the stories of our community and serving as a forum for self-expression. This national award-winning online magazine is currently recruiting college interns to serve as magazine writers and editors of our on-line magazine. From quinces to fashion, advice to volunteering, college to mentoring, dating to entertainment, and wellness to culture, Latinitas focuses on topics related to being a Latina teen today with a Latina power theme. College students who are interested in developing their writing and multimedia skills and getting published in LatinitasMagazine.com are invited to apply.
Duties include
- Commit 5 hours per week
- Submit regular feature stories
- Maintain regular blogs on mylatinitas.com
- Participate in monthly surveys on mylatinitas.com to give us ideas for future topics
- Actively participate in our online community (post comments, respond to forum questions)
- Participate in conference calls or Skype calls with the Latinitas team per year
- Assist with editing the work of peers
- Create multimedia projects for mylatinitas (videos, podcasts, photo essays, slideshows)
- Conduct interviews and gather quotes for feature stories

Latinitas conducts a wide variety of workshops camps and clubs, so we are always in need of promotional material as well as supplemental material for curriculum. This internship requires that you are familiar with Photoshop and/or InDesign as well as the workflow necessary to complete the tasks assigned.
Duties include
- Commit 10-15 hours per week
- Evaluate graphic design needs within the organization
- Actively participate in our online community (post comments, respond to forum questions)
- Assist with editing the work of peers
- Complete flyers, banner ads and other instructional material for the organization

Job Description
Our girls LOVE video projects but we sometimes don’t get a chance to teach the editing programs in each of the clubs. Your job as the Video editing intern will be to put together the projects created in the clubs and workshops and get them online on our multiple channels.
Duties include
- Commit 10-15 hours per week
- Evaluate video editing needs for the organization
- Actively participate in our online community (post comments, respond to forum questions)
- Assist with editing the work that comes back from the workshops and camps
- Manage the media and projects you are working on on the Latinitas Server
