Club Latinitas Volunteer Assistants Internship (Fall & Spring)

Job Type: Volunteer Intern (10 hours per week)
Compensation: Unpaid (college credit – optional)

Positions Available: 10

Time Commitment: 3-5 days a week (2:30pm to 6:00pm) and occasional Saturdays (10 hours per week)

Description
Latinitas is now looking for Club Volunteers for our educational outreach programs. We need mature and committed volunteers who can guide elementary and middle school girls through digital media publishing, production and cultural literacy lessons during our after-school programs that take place on a weekly basis from September-December and January-May. We are seeking volunteers interested in media, technology educations, as well as youth empowerment and social justice. It is necessary to have weekday afternoons available. Our clubs serves girls ages 9-14 and focus on encouraging girls to build confidence through creative multimedia expression. Girls in our clubs participate in hands-on activities such as writing, media literacy, photography, filmmaking, video game design, app design and more. Club Latinitas connects girls with positive role models and encourage girls to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

As a volunteer club assistant, you will help lead an assortment of program opportunities such as after-school clubs, weekend workshops, and our fall and/or spring all-day conferences. Expectations include being organized, resourceful, creative, proactive, and enthusiastic. Experience working with children preferred.

Duties include

  • Assist club leaders with in-school recruitment and club management
  • Help leaders administer curriculum at 3-5 schools and/or Latinitas workshops at public libraries or public housing
  • Reports twice monthly for staff training, mandatory staff orientations in Fall and/or Spring
  • Mentors youth, encourages positive team environment and serves as a role model
  • Document Club Latinitas by taking photos and video during activities and share footage on social media
  • Assists leader with team-building and confidence-boosting activities and games
  • Attend and support the Latinitas fall and/or spring all-day conferences
  • Assists with implementation of activity ideas for Club Latinitas
  • Co-organizes projects as needed
  • Assists with communication with school officials on Latinitas program updates
  • Follows safety regulations and emergency procedures, responds to critical incidents, performs routine first aid tasks, and ensures well-being of participating girls 
  • Abides by all Club Latinitas rules and regulations, enforces them among participants, and applies appropriate behavior management techniques

Volunteer Requirements
Ideal volunteers will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. Prior experience working with youth is preferred. Volunteers should be enthusiastic, organized, resourceful, and creative. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to sign up. Training will be given as necessary.

Public Relations and Communications Intern

Job Type: Volunteer Intern (10-15 hours per week)

Intern Description
Latinitas is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Latina youth through media. We publish LatinitasMagazine.org, the first bilingual website by and for Hispanic girls. We host after-school clubs and outreach programs which help girls express themselves through media and technology.

We are seeking talented individuals to volunteer for our busy spring semester. PR and Communications Interns will have a unique opportunity to learn about non-profit public affairs through hands-on activities and exposure to a wide range of activities and projects.
This position requires volunteer interns to help further the public image of the organization and to help create wider exposure in the Austin & El Paso, Texas area. We have plenty of opportunities to fill your portfolio while having a lot of fun and helping girls at the same time! We offer meaningful and fulfilling experiences for several interests and academic backgrounds. This position is recommended for students with a major in Communications, Business, Marketing or Spanish, however, anyone interested is welcomed to apply.

Duties include:

  • Events: Aid in organizing and attending special events such as after-school fairs and community events
  • Marketing/Advertising: Help develop & implement marketing & advertising plan
  • Public Relations: Update media contact list, write press releases for upcoming events, and monitor media coverage
  • Social Media: Write and schedule social media posts and track them, share ideas and input on content and usage of social media channels,
  • Editorial: Write and edit the Latinitas monthly e-newsletter
  • Development: Research Austin’s non-profit sector to help determine the best marketing practices for Latinitas.

Intern Requirements
This position requires 10-15 hours of work per week. Interns are encouraged to gain experience and skills geared toward their interests! This is a non-paid intern position, but the experience is priceless. The ideal intern will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interns should be enthusiastic, organized, resourceful, and creative. We are looking for a self-starter who is able to work independently and is willing to take advantage of this opportunity to develop their professional skills. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply. Website and graphic design experience is a plus. Training will be given as necessary.

Video and Content Production Internship

Job Type: Volunteer Internship (10-15 hours per week)

Intern Description
If you are interested in video production, photography and editing, and want to develop your skills, want to make a difference and get published, then this is the perfect opportunity for you. We have plenty of opportunities to fill your portfolio while having a lot of fun and helping girls at the same time! We offer meaningful and fulfilling experience for several interests and academic backgrounds. This position is recommended for students with a major in Journalism, Film, Television, English or Communications or Design.

Duties include:

  • Evaluate video content needs for the organization
  • Assist the Latinitas Marketing Director with video and footage strategies before, during, and after our annual fundraising event
  • Actively participate at Latinitas events throughout the semester to capture footage and interview attendees or participants
  • Edit video or photography footage from enrichment programs including after-school clubs, conferences, and workshops
  • Manage projects on the Latinitas YouTube Channel and/or other publishing platforms

Intern Requirements
The ideal intern will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interns should be enthusiastic, organized, resourceful, and creative. We are looking for a self-starter who is able to work independently and is willing to take advantage of this opportunity to develop their professional skills.

Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply. Must have knowledge of video production, editing, sound and publishing to YouTube. We prefer that interns have their own equipment, but it is not required.

Photography and website management experience via WordPress is a plus. Training will be given as necessary.

Graphic Design Internship

Job Description
Latinitas conducts a wide variety of workshops camps and clubs, so we are always in need of promotional material as well as supplemental material for curriculum. Latinitas is now recruiting for a graphic designer who can assist with the creation of new and improved flyers, graphics, designs, and other promotional materials. This internship requires that you are familiar with Photoshop and/or InDesign.

Duties include

  • Complete flyers, banner ads, and other instructional material for the organization
  • Edit existing flyers and promotional materials to best fit the Latinitas marketing objectives
  • Create new flyers and other promotional materials for upcoming events
  • Evaluate graphic design needs within the organization
  • Assist with the development of the new Latinitas website

Intern Requirements
This position is recommended for students with a major in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, or English.  The ideal intern will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interns should be enthusiastic, organized, resourceful, and creative. We are looking for a self-starter who is able to work independently and is willing to take advantage of this opportunity to develop their professional skills. Editorial Internship

Job Type: Part-Time Volunteer Internship (10 hours per week)

Description
Latinitas is a dedicated to being a strong voice for young Latinas, telling the stories of our community and serving as a forum for self-expression. Latinitas is recruiting college interns to serve as writers and editors of our new and upcoming website. From local community events and national holidays to the Latino culture and empowerment, the Latinitas Medium Channel and online magazine focus on various topics related to being a Latina teen today with a Latina power theme. College students who are interested in developing their writing and getting published in the Latinitas Medium Channel are invited to apply.

Duties include:

  • Create original articles and stories to be featured in the Latinitas Medium Channel
  • Research upcoming local events and holidays to give us ideas for future topics
  • Conduct interviews and gather quotes for feature stories
  • Assist with editing the work of peers, social media messages, and emails to parents
  • Assist with editing the text and content of the new Latinitas website

Web Management and Development Internship

Description
Latinitas is a nonprofit focused on empowering Latina and other girls of color through media and technology. We publish an online magazine and host girl-empowerment programs focused on multimedia self-expression. We have currently revamping our organization’s website and need a web manager to support the following tasks:

  • Migrate web content to new website platform
  • Manage our website content (articles, photographs, bios, etc)
  • Update and edit our event calendar, program pages, multimedia features, and links
  • Web design, graphic design, and photography experience is encouraged
  • Bilingual proficiency encouraged but not required

2016 Summer Camp Leadership Positions 

Make a difference in the lives of girls and become a Latinitas Summer Camp Leader! We offer meaningful and fulfilling experiences to help local girls by providing a positive, enriching experience throughout July camps. Latinitas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Latina youth through media and technology and executes the mission by publishing a bilingual webzine for Latina girls, facilitating an after-school program, mentoring girls, and hosting innovative media workshops in the community. Our interactive educational summer camp program focuses on teaching girls fun ways to express themselves through a variety of media and technology projects that include writing, photography, graphic design, filmmaking, radio production, web and app design and more!

CAMP DATES

JULY 5-8 – CINE CHICA – In the Cine Chica Camp, girls will learn about independent filmmaking, publishing and music while exploring the multiple channels for promotion and success of their talent.

JULY 11-15 – FASHION FORWARD – Can you spot trends? Girls will have fun with fashion writing, photography, reviews, videos and will create their own fashion magazine app.

JULY 18-22 – TECH CHICA – Are you into video games or new technologies like social media? Girls will go through the development of their very own video game while learning the basics of using social media as a tool, and getting some hands on experience in working with websites!

JULY 25 – 29 – HEALTHY CHICA – Yoga, acupuncture, Zumba and meditation are just a few things on the menu for Latinitas Healthy Chica camp. Girls will use blogging, photography, video and other multimedia forms to explore healthy living choices.

Seeking a FULL TIME Summer Camp Leader and a PART TIME Summer Camp Assistant 

Duties Include: 

-Provides leadership and guidance to 15-25 girls per week

-Encourages positive team environment and serves as a role model

-Leads team-building and confidence-boosting activities and games

-Efficiently utilizes summer camp assistants and volunteers

-Co-facilitates this media and tech empowerment program for girls (3rd-8th graders)

-Collaborates with guest speakers and demonstrators to lead group sessions

-Develops and implements activity ideas for summer camp

-Leads field trips, special events & projects as needed

– Follows safety regulations and emergency procedures, responds to critical incidents, performs routine first aid tasks, and ensures well-being of campers

-Abides by all camp rules and regulations, enforces them among campers, applies appropriate behavior and management techniques

Qualifications:

The ideal leader will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Applicants should be organized, resourceful, creative, enthusiastic, and proactive. We are looking for someone who is able to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience working with children preferred. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply. This position is recommended for students with a major in communications, social work, or education. Interns must be computer literate, demonstrating proficiency with Microsoft Office and Internet navigation. Interns must be able to establish and maintain a good rapport and harmonious relationships with campers, parents and staff. A background in one of the following areas is helpful: journalism, writing, editing, photography, web design, graphic design, radio, or film. However, prior media experience is not required.

Training:

Program leader and assistant must attend a mandatory training session in June. We will review camp logistics, procedures and outline of planned curriculum for the entirety of the camp season.
