Volunteer Experience

Since 2009, Lauren has been volunteering at the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic, a non-profit organization that provides free health care services to more than 58,000 homeless, low-income and uninsured individuals per year, in the Los Angeles community. As a volunteer, Lauren has been commited to helping underpriviledge Latino children read and write. Lauren founded “Lauren’s Book Stand” at the clinic that provides free books to the patients. A place where children are inspired to read and write and are also tutored and mentored.Lauren is also the Author/Illustrator of a Bilingual Children’s book, “Senor Sprinkles”. She uses her book as a tool to inspire children to read and write. In addition, Lauren is the founder of the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic Youth Club, that encourages teens from the community to volunteer and coordinate teen fundraisers for the clinic.

What challenges has she overcome?

At the age of 10, Lauren was diagnosed with a condition called pseudocerebra head tumor. She suffered for many years with migrain headaches. In spite of her debilitating condition, she continued to write short stories and always maintained high grades in school. After several years, she grew out of the medical condition.

What makes her a leader?

Founder/President- Lauren’s Book Stand, where children are inspired to read and write. As well as mentoring and tutoring.

What extra-curricular activities is she involved in?

When Lauren is not volunteering at the Hollywood Sunset Free clinic, she enjoys writing and walking her dog,Senor Sprinkles, along with the neighborhood dogs.

How is she a good example and positive role model to other girls?

She is an amazing 16 year old Latina. Her accomplishments and volunteer work have inspired many children and teens to read and write.She is definitley a Positive role model for all girls!
