Karateka Latinas

Sports are a great after-school activity. There can be many sports to choose from at your school, but one great sport to consider is Karate.

The art of karate arrived in the United States after World War II. Karate became popular with service men in the 1930s stationed in Japan, and they brought it back with them to the states. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, interest in all martial arts ballooned because of martial arts films and Chinese-American martial arts star Bruce Lee.

Today, it is a very popular sport that teaches non-violent self-defense. It gives you the opportunity to show off your skills and improve those skills by reaching higher ranks marked by the color of your belt. How cool would being a black belt be!

And get this! It isn’t just for boys. Karate classes are usually taught co-ed, so girls and boys learn the sport together.

Even if Karate isn’t offered at your school, it is most likely offered at a local gym or community center. Go seek it out!

You can be a Latina karateka in the gym, conditioning your body and doing round kicks in the air to stay healthy. You will look and feel awesome!
