Tiara Tuesday
Tuesday, July 10, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Location: The Motel Bar (406 Durango St.).
Latinitas is hosting the ultimate ladies’ night out, Tiara Tuesday to fund raise money for Latinitas. Ladies will be able to enjoy a martini and receive a manicure for $10 while being able to network with other professional women. It’s a happy hour for women with the theme of martinis and manicures, but anyone can participate (there will be non-alcoholic options). Volunteers are needed to help with setting up for the event, helping out at the information table, registering and greeting guests, directing guests at the manicure tables, and photographing the event. We also need help with breaking down and packaging supplies which would be at the end of the event. . Viva La Voz CAMP Chicas Advancing in Media Project
Saturday, July 7 and July 21 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Location: Latinitas Headquarters (1359 Lomaland).Latinitas invites teen girls (ages 13-18) to participate in writing & multimedia workshops. Girls will be writing magazine stories and producing media projects to be published in our online magazine. Volunteers are needed to help mentor the teen participants during the scheduled workshops, help with the planning process, and serve as guest speakers with media related experience. Latinitas will host a hands-on multimedia arts camp for middle school girls (4th – 8th grade) during the summer vacation. Volunteers are needed that week to help set up, serve as a guest speakers, mentor the girls, lead group creative expression activities, serve as chaperones for scheduled field trips, take photos and clean up. Creative Expression Saturday Camps & After-School Clubs
Saturday, July 21, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Judge Marquez Library Branch (610 N. Yarbrough). Held Weekly After School at Various Public Housing CentersFemale volunteers are needed to assist our workshop leaders and mentor girls(in grades 4-8th) with hands-on media arts activities in our Saturday Camps and After-School Clubs. Our Saturday camps occur monthly, so on-going mentoring is gladly accepted as well. The After-School Clubs typically take place from 4:30-6:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at various community center around town. Latinitas is hosting a Multimedia Arts summer camp for girls 4th – 8th grade and is recruiting volunteers interested in assisting at the camp scheduled in July. Volunteers are needed to help plan the hands on activities for the camp as well as assisting during the camp. At the camp, volunteers are needed to help set up, serve as a guest speakers, mentor the girls, guide campers through the scheduled activities, and clean up. Help is also needed with promoting the camp among girls and parents. Housing Club Leaders & Mentors WanteD
Make a difference in a girl’s life as a Housing Club Leader. Latinitas hosts media enrichment clubs where girls can build confidence through creative expression. Latinitas partners with local public housing centers to host 6-week-long after-school clubs. Our clubs focus on encouraging girls to build confidence through creative multimedia expression. Girls in will participate in hands-on activities such as creative writing, photography, arts & crafts, skits and more. Our clubs connect girls with positive role models and encourage girls to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment. As a club leader, you would guide small team activities and motivate girls to foster a positive self-esteem.
