FEBRUARY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Latinitas Benefit Yard Sale Saturday, April 21, 6:00a.m – 3:00p.m. Location: Klothes Lime (1805 Montana).Latinitas is partnering with Klothes Lime to put together a yard sale. The Yard Sale will take place in the parking lot and all proceeds will support Latintias. In addition 50% of the proceeds made inside the store from 10am – 7pm will go to support Latinitas. Volunteers are needed to donate yard sale items, like clothing, home accessories, equipment etc, that are in good or decent shape. Volunteers are also needed to help set up and break down the event and to help customers and sell yard sale times during the event. Latinitas Teen Leadership Institute is hosting a Girl Empowerment Conference to focus on positive self esteem, leadership skills and community service for young girls. Volunteers are needed to help to do some office work related to the conference during the week. Volunteers can sign up for any days and times that they are available during the week. Viva La Voz CAMP Chicas Advancing in Media Project Saturday, April 7 and April 21 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Location: Latinitas Headquarters (1359 Lomaland). Latinitas invites teen girls (ages 13-18) to participate in writing & multimedia workshops. Girls will be writing magazine stories and producing media projects to be published in our online magazine. Volunteers are needed to help mentor the teen participants during the scheduled workshops, help with the planning process, and serve as guest speakers with media related experience. Teen Leadership Institute Saturday, April 14 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Location: Latinitas Headquarters (1359 Lomaland). Latinitas Teen Leadership Institute is a leadership program for high schools girls where they will learn how to become a strong voice in their community. Volunteers are needed to help with the planning the leadership workshops, arranging guest speakers to speak at the workshops, and volunteers are also needed the day of the event to help with set up, run through and break down. We are also seeking Latina leaders to serve as guest speakers for our upcoming monthly workshops. Latinitas Volunteer Orientation Tuesday,April 17, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Location: Latinitas Headquarters (1359 Lomaland #502). Latinitas will be providing a volunteer orientation to any potential volunteers. The orientation will provide information about Latinitas and how to become involved in helping Latinitas with the various projects including girl empowerment programs, Alliance for Latinitas and the editorial and multimedia team. Female volunteers are needed to assist our workshop leaders and mentor girls (in grades 4-8th) with hands-on media arts activities in our Saturday Camps and After-School Clubs. Our Saturday camps occur the 2nd (Eastside) & 3rd (Northeast) Saturday of every month, so on-going mentoring is gladly accepted as well. The After-School Clubs typically take place from 4:30-6:30 weekly at various community center around town. La Fe Cultural Center Exhibit
First week and last week of April, during office hours (10a.m. – 6p.m). Location: Latintias Headquarters (1359 Lomaland) and La Fe Cultural Center (721 S. Ochoa Rear). Latinitas is hosting a photography exhibit at La Fe Cultural Center. The exhibit will highlight photography from girls in our various outreach programs. Volunteers are needed to help frame the photography at the office and to transport and hang the photos at La Fe Cultural Center. Volunteers are also needed to breakdown on the last week of the month. Miss Representation Documentary Screening: Body Image Workshop April 10, Time: 5-7:30. Location: UTEP Latinitas is hosting a body image presentation at the screening of Miss Representation at UTEP. Volunteers are need to facilitate these workshops and to assist the workshop leaders and girls participating at the workshop.
